Is there a reason why some avi files I have downloaded from a site, won't
work until the process has fully finished. I started to download episodes of
a tv series, and stopped because the time slowed down. Having all the files
from the series in a directory named Uncompleted downloads, all the files
are there but if i try to run them, there is a unknown error in all of them.
What file is needed to run these files ??

Thanks
Peter

You clearly misunderstand what you are downloading. You are not
downloading the avi files from Kickass. All you are getting from the
Kickass site is a torrent file, which is merely a small set of
instructions for the uTorrent program to use for downloading the avi
file from other torrent users around the world. This is why the "time
slowed down". Most people have upload speeds substantially lower than
their download speed. This low speed is further divided among several
files that are being sent to others at the same time. You are
constantly picking up and dropping connections to others (seeds and
peers) which varies the downloading speed. Your program should
display this as it happens.

The avi is split into hundreds of small parts which are sent to you
in random order. You are not getting the parts sequentially from
beginning to end. The reason the are in the "Uncompleted" directory
is because they are NOT complete yet. There will be a file listed
there that shows the file size of the full avi file, but that is
because uTorrent reserved the full file space so it could place the
small pieces into their proper location within the file as it gets
them. Some torrent clients can graphically display details showing
which of the pieces you have so far.

Avi files have an index section at the end which some players must
read in order to play the file. VLC will play incomplete files
without an index, but only if you have the beginning of the file
intact and only up to the point where it encounters an empty space in
the file that has not yet been downloaded.

Peter, a soon as the files begin to download, the sizes are showing on
your folder. If you go into settings in uTorrent make a "final
download" folder for your full download to end up in. Then you will
have no confusion with what is/is not fully downloaded.
