Yeh, I use Google all the time. But I ask on this group in the hope someone
knows what's best and what's good value. I'd rather not have to test every
conversion program and reinvent the wheel.

You guys can teach me lots, I suspect.

Regards

Doug

Get Super Video Converter 4.5, you'll have pretty good
luck with the default settings. My own effort was towards
AVI's with importable settings for Premier..

Kurt: I have a similar requirement, namely converting FLV to AVI. So I
just downloaded and installed the trial version of Super Video
Converter. But its supported input file types don't appear to include
FLV.

If your looking to "capture" flash from web browsers there are 2
programs you can use.
Replay Media Caprture & Replay Converter.
The 1st program will capture the flash & save it as a .flv file.
The second will convert the video to an avi format.
Do a search in the Torrents for the downloads...it's there.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Gambler. But I already have an add-on called VideoDownloader
for my Firefox browser that lets me download a YouTube movie. It's a
bit crude (every file is identically named, so you have to rename it
and add an .FLV extension), but it results in a playable FLV file on
my HD. So what I was asking for here was a simple, ideally free
program that just converts that FLV file to AVI and/or MPEG.

Sorry if I was unclear, but Replay Converter does convert Flash
Video (FLV) files to avi (mpeg4), PSP, iPod Video, Mobile 3GP &
WMV.

However, someone more experienced may be able to offer something
else.

Thanks. Maybe I'll try it again, out of curiosity, but Riva as
recommended by honu seems to do the job nicely.

It looks like you found a free approach that works for you,
but just for the record; TMPGEnc 4.0 XPress Encoder just
added FLV in their last update. If someone is looking for a
simpler approach with the usual filters and processing of a
paid for encoder.

Luck;

To convert flv to wmv, Aunsoft FLV Converter is a good choice. It could deal with flv/f4v problems and lossless convert them into different video and audio formats including wmv. It is now in giveaway and is only $9.9.
