Playing .asf files on dvd player

I have some.asf files I would like to burn to a dvd-rw to play on a
regular dvd player. So I tried converting one file to dvd format using
WinAVI video converter. It processes it & produces 5 files, a large
.vob file & 2 each smaller .ifo files & .bup files. But when I try to
burn them to a dvd (dvd r or rw) using Win AVI it gives a title write
error. Nero burning rom 6 gives the error "unrecognized file format".
How can I burn these to a cdrw so I can play them on the dvd player?
What program would accomplish this? I have been able to copy commercial
dvd's to cdrw using dvdshrink & play them successfully.

Use new compilation and select DVD-Video. Click new then Drag all the files
to the video_TS folder under NEW. then burn it.
